Our Approach
We believe that orphanages and group homes are a compassionate response to the orphan crisis but that a child has the best opportunity to thrive in a family environment. We are therefore committed to ministry solutions that support empowering community and family to protect and care for the orphans among them. While our goal is to keep children with family and community, our approach may vary as we employ different strategies based on the diversity in the communities that we serve.
Empowerment Project
The key to supporting communities and family to care for the orphans among them is that they must first believe it is their responsibility and they must be united in their commitment to do so.
When communities are united in their commitment, we are able to focus on projects that will drive long term sustainable solutions that empower the community and families to care for the orphans themselves.
Relief Project
A high priority in every community is to ensure that the most basic needs of the orphans are taken care of first. PROJECT 82 serves in rural Kenya areas and we often find that relief work is necessary for some period of time where orphans may lack food, water and shelter. Relief projects are never employed as a solution but rather a temporary approach in crisis situations until viable empowerment projects can be implemented that will ultimately eliminate the need for relief.
Rescue Project
In some more serious situations, we may find children who are living in volatile or even dangerous environments. In this scenario, we focus on protecting the children and meeting their immediate needs so that if and when the situation can be stabilized, we can move toward empowerment projects.
House of Hope Project
Some situations call for a temporary solution. There are times when we find an orphan who has no family or community willing to take them in. Other times we may find a child dying from HIV/AIDS with no one to care for them. In these scenarios, we work to move the child to a House of Hope, a home that is designed to bridge a transition period for orphans.
