Without a skill or an education, she often depended on others to provide for her family. Learning to knit and sew opened doors that were previously closed to her. When she delivered her first order of school uniforms to the headmaster, her heart soared with the feeling of accomplishment. Did she dare to name the feeling that came next?
In Kenya, communities are struggling to care for the 2.5 million orphans among them. A generation of caregivers has been wiped out by HIV/AIDS, tribal conflict and poverty-driven diseases. Those left behind to care for the children are often overwhelmed by their responsibilities and trapped in poverty, perpetuating a cycle that will prove near impossible for the children in their care to overcome.
PROJECT 82 is boldly committed to ministry solutions that empower the family and surrounding community to care for the orphans among them. By offering a guardian program that focuses on microenterprise training, we help guardians gain skills that can be used to sustain their families for the long-term.
PROJECT 82 donors ensure that guardians receive:
- Training to master skills such as baking, knitting, sewing, welding, computers or bookkeeping.
- Life skills training
- Spiritual and emotional support
- Hope for the future
